12 Dec 2000 | Irish Government, Letter
Letter from Brian Cowan, TD. An acknowledgement of letter to Brian Cowan TD from his Private Secretary, today I received a phone call from John Lawton. He began by telling me that your article in the IOS had generated enquiries from other papers, he then moved to discussing my request for government support in my quest for information about my missing son, he enquired was there not some other channels that I might consider using ie legal action against the authorities in Malta. I pointed out that I had already spent considerable amounts of my own resources in my ongoing search and could not undertake an action of this kind as it would involve hiring legal representation here and in Malta. Hence my reason for asking for government support.

I have followed your very interesting reports of Mr. Shaylers activities, and note that he claims to have been on the Libyan desk in 1995,could you enquire if he has any information relating to the Piper Lance 32 Reg 9H-ABU which mysteriously disappeared on a flight from Djerba Tunisia to Malta in the early morning of Sunday the 3rd December 1995. My son Desmond and Englishman Michael Williams and four others were reported to have been passengers on that plane, no bodies or wreckage have as yet been found. At the time of the reported disappearance an eight day five nation sea search was carried out, absolutely nothing found. My information from a UK military source states the plane and passengers were flown to Libya
