Letter from Cecilia Pellegrini to Maltese PM Fenech Adami re: PM visit to Libya

My son, Matthew Aquilina tragically went missing in the early hours of the 3rd December 1995. Matthew was one of the six people deemed to be on board the Piper Lance aircraft that disappeared on the way to Malta from Djerba under mysterious circumstances. As you are aware the investigating Board of inquiry has recently published its report on the matter but there are still many questions that were left unanswered.

We would be forever grateful it you could ask for Libyan assistance during your visit to Libya this week. The Maltese Authorities to the best of our knowledge never requested any radar information from the Libyans. There is no radar or satellite image proof that the plane was airborne. On separate occasions as also stated under oath during a sitting of the inquiry, Carmel Bartoli (the pilot) flew through Libyan Airspace without authorisation.

Superone TV announce Inquiry have finalised report

Have tried to contact you from home on Saturday evening but was unsuccessful. On Superone TV it was announced that the Board of Inquiry have now finalised their report and have given it to the Minister ot Transport, Censu Galea, but it is not known when the Minister will make it public or if he will make it public. Again we are not informed in writing or verbally and we have to hear it from the TV.

Letter to Rodney Wood seeking further details of the flight and its passengers

I write to you regarding the disappearance of Piper 9H-ABU you may recall we met at a Sitting of the Board of Enquiry in August 1997. The Board has not had a Sitting since then until 22nd April 1999, and I enclose copies of the Malta Times and Independent reports of the proceedings which will give you a flavour of what was discussed, we were very interested in Mr. Klebb’s evidence, the content of which confirmed your own experiences on the flight.
